My God, I dont even know where to begin. This past 10 days have been the best 10 days of my life...I've never felt so blessed! So I think I'm just gonna start at the beginning of the trip. Alright, we went to Brisbane first (its like an hour plane ride North of Newcastle). Oh and btw, when I say 'we' I mean my friends Stacy, Kelsey, David, Pat, Alex, and Jason. All of them go to Newcastle as well except for Alex, he goes to Sydney. Anywayssss, so the first night we go to Brisbane is friday the 10th which ended up being Good Friday. Obviously we didnt think much about it because Good Friday isn't really a big deal back in the States. Well here its a national holiday...yeah...so no bars, convenience stores, or pretty much anything that sells alchy were open. The only time you could get a beer was if you were at a restaurant and you had a meal as well. We definitely weren't going to do that because foods expensive and we're just trying to pinch pennies.
So we go exploring instead. Brisbane is absolutely amazing. Its weird cause I've heard mixed reviews...some people said it was boring. Either way, we had a great time. Theres a river that runs down the center of the city, its beautiful. So we took a stroll over the bridge and hungout where the Griffith Uni is...basically, theres this huge path with trendy stores and restaurants that overlooks the entire river. And in between the store paths and the river is a hugeeee public swimming pool that looks like a beach. It was so cool! I became obsessed with Brisbane within like 5 minutes of being there. This little river pathway area was like Disney, I'm not even kidding...the coolest architecture, pretty flowers, so much to do (they had a ferris wheel and trampolines and a big screen to watch movies)!! So pretty much thats all we did the first night...just kinda explored...didn't feel like paying a bunch of money to start drinking at 12(thats when all the bars reopened)...so we all just goofed around.
The next day was an early morning...had to be up and ready by like 8am cause we were catching a bus to the Australian Zoo(which is the Steve Irwin zoo...started by his parents when he was young, then he took over). It was an all day event. Saw pretty much every animal...crocs, roos, wallabys, elephants, camels, dingoes, tasmanian devils, tigers, HUGE snakes, koalas...it was craziness. Obviously they had the stereotypical zoo animals, but those dont ever get old anyways. The Kangaroo part was probably my favorite...it was called Roo Heaven and basically you just walk into this HUGE fenced in area with hundreds of kangas just hopping around. So we got to walk right up to them and pet and chill with them...again! So awesome! There was also a croc show. It was this massive crocodile that they had come swim out and do 'tricks' for food...pretty sick, kinda reminded me of sea world...cant go wrong there.
After the Zoo which took literally like 7 hours, we went back to the hostel and got all cleaned up and bought some alchy. Basically we just drank and bar hopped all around Brisbane. There was a casino 5 min walking distance away so we hit that up first...I'm pretty sure Alex won like 15 bucks haha, not too shabby...I didnt play anything...literally danced the entire time. The casino was so much fun! After that, we went to another bar down the street that had a live band...from what I do remember, they were playing some pretty sick songs so of course, stac and i danced the ENTIRE time...then we went off to another club down the street...totally hoppin! Huge dance floor, people everwhere! The best part was that the boys we were with dont mind dancing...in fact, theyre just as ridiculous and outgoing as we are...it was a blast!!
Had to wake up early, once again, the next day to pack our shit up and check out then meet a bus that was taking us to Hervey Bay...it was like a 5 hour bus ride...not bad at all! But I'll talk about Hervey Bay and Fraser Island later...I have to go to class now, laaaaame. But yeah, Brisbane or Brisvegas as we say...was amazing and I wish I could go there again!!!!
